Konan Japan Jazz Band Visit to Hawaii

Music Brings Us Together 2005

Le Jardin was swinging to the sound of jazz music the week of March 28th as 30 members of the Konan High School Jazz Band visited the campus. Since 1992 Le Jardin Academy and the Konan Brass Ensemble, from the Konan Boys’ High School in Ashiya, Japan, has had an exchange program. Every 3 years the band visits Hawaii where they perform at various hotels and shopping centers (Ala Moana, Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, etc.) and also experience a homestay with the LJA families. In exchange, the LJA Ukulele Choir visits the Konan Boys’ High School in Japan.

The Konan Brass Ensemble, formed in 1982, is a jazz band from Konan Boys’ High School in southern Japan. The Ensemble won first place in the Student Jazz Festival in Kobe, Japan in August of 2001. The band has played for many audiences throughout Japan including, most recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) Conference held in Kobe, Japan in November of 2001. They have also performed for audiences in Hawaii, the Republic of Korea, France and Britain.
