Growing the Garden
A Capital Campaign for Le Jardin Academy
Le Jardin Academy has embarked on a major capital campaign to fund the
construction of 18 classrooms, a gymnasium, and road infrastructure
on our campus (Phase IIA). This phase of the project encompasses 44,170
square feet campus. The new classrooms will be for Middle and High
School students and the classroom building will also house a Middle
and High School library. This project will allow increased enrollment
in the Middle School and High School and will make it possible to at
last reunite the entire school on one campus by bringing the Junior
School to the main campus. Ultimately, the project will be a critical
factor in our mission of building self-sufficiency when educating our
young students.
In these times of congested roads, rising fuel prices and increasing
pollution, it is clear that students on the Windward side of Oahu need
a high quality private school in their own neighborhood. It makes little
sense to perpetuate a system of private education that forces thousands
of school students from all over Oahu to converge daily onto the already
overwhelmed roads of our capital city. In the short time that we have
been located at our new Campus, we have attracted more than enough students
to populate a large private high school just in Kailua, Kaneohe and Waimanalo.
However, the parents of Hawaii have become accustomed to sending their
children to high quality private schools with excellent amenities. While
having made giant steps towards the establishment of its new facilities,
Le Jardin Academy still has some way to go to be able to match the downtown
top private schools’ facilities. Until Le Jardin can match these
facilities, there will continue to be a steady flow of students from
the Windward side to these downtown schools. Not only does this considerably
contribute to the congestion on the Pali Highway, it also wastes nearly
two hours of each of these students’ time daily. The need to establish
a truly viable alternative for these students is imperative.
With the move to its new campus in 1999 and the successful institution
of the High School program in 2001, Le Jardin Academy has already made
great strides toward meeting the needs of students on the Windward side.
The school is now poised to begin the next phase of its mission to expand
and upgrade its facilities so that they reach a level that is comparable
with its major downtown competitors.
The new buildings planned in Phase IIA, will allow for the expansion
of the High School from 200 to 288 students and the Middle School from
132 to 244 students. Expanding enrollment is essential for the school’s
development because it generates a sufficient student body to allow for
the diversity of programs needed to provide students with top quality
education. Expansion of the Middle School is also predicated on the need
to provide well prepared Middle School students to move in the upper
levels of the school. In addition, expansion of the main campus will
allow the highly regarded Junior School to rejoin the other schools at
the main campus.
Phase IIA also adds a gymnasium which improves Le Jardin Academy’s
ability to fulfill the third part of its mission, the development of
its students’ bodies. The gymnasium will also support the latest
addition to the school, Le Jardin’s Soccer Academy. The school
plans to make the gym available to outside groups over the weekends.
