3rd Annual HOOP IT UP 2005 The third annual Hoop it Up 3 on 3 basketball tournament was played at Le Jardin Academy's basketball courts. In just its third year, parents, teachers, and student body ranging from second grade thru twelve all enjoyed the festivities the tournament had to offer. From music pumping the tunes and hot dogs grilling on the bar-b-cues, this year was the tournaments biggest turnout by far. This year’s teams ranged from our middle and high school students. “The kids are really playing some ball out there”, claimed Steve Chamberlain, LJA’s Athletic Director who emceed the event. This year was a special time for Senior Kevin and 8th grader John, each representing our high and middle school respectively, have been on the championship team for all three years of the tournaments existence. “Three peat”, that’s what I’m talking about” said Senior big Nick “Chico”, who along with Junior Keegan "Keegs” teamed up with Kevin and John, won this years Hoop it Up. This year’s event also had its first slam dunk contest, which was judged by Varsity assistant basketball coach Tom King and head Varsity volleyball coach Lesley “LJ” Johnson. Each contestant that entered had to have the power and grace, a style on their approach and creativity to win the judges approval. The battle came down to Senior Kirk “the Captain” and Junior Josh. As the crowd screamed and cheered, students high fiving one another, the announcement rang through loud and clear with Mr. C. officially making the call; “this year’s winner, is Big Daddy Josh!” The tournaments success comes directly from the students and all participating individuals who cohesively work as one. The Booster and Athletic clubs, the men of our Maintenance Staff, Faculty and Administration, PFA, makes this event the success that it is. Congratulations to all who came out and supported the event.
