8th grade Cardboard Box Race 2007
The cardboard boat race is an application
of their study of density and buoyancy. They study density and buoyancy in
class and
(in theory, anyway) have done all the math before building their boats
to insure that it floats. They have to figure out the area of their boat in
order
to find the mass of the boat and its cargo (the two students) and then
estimate the volume to see if the density is less than one. Of course, most
of the
boats don ’t
end up looking much like the final boat. |
