2. Grading Policies: Your quarter grade will be computed as follows:
5% Responsibility and Conduct: Every student is expected to come to class prepared, be polite in interactions with others, and be productive during class time. Responsibility is a huge part of what makes you successful as a middle school and high school student. It is possible to earn two points per day. Two points will be given to the student who comes to class on time with all of their needed supplies. One point will be given to the student if he or she has an unexcused tardy or if he or she forgets some supplies. No points will be given to students who attend class without their supplies.
25% Homework: This course covers numerous mathematical concepts, and it is important that you keep up by doing homework regularly. Homework will generally be assigned each day that class meets and be due at the beginning of class. Each daily homework assignment will be graded on accuracy and grades will be posted on K12 Planet. Assignments that are late or incomplete will not receive full credit.
30% Quizzes: Quizzes will be given at least twice per chapter, one mid chapter and one before the chapter test. Quizzes are good opportunities to practice the skills taught in the chapter and hopefully master the skills before the chapter test. There will be an in-class review the day before the quiz to answer any last questions and to clarify any concepts. “Pop” quizzes or unannounced quizzes may also be given to check for mastery of the subject material.
40% Tests: Chapter tests will be given at the end of each chapter. The chapter tests will cover only material from the current chapter. There will be an in-class review the day before the chapter test to answer any last questions and to clarify concepts.
Quarterly tests will be given at the end of the quarter. These tests will cover all of the material covered during that particular quarter. A Mid term will be given at the end of the second quarter which will cover all material discussed in the first two quarters. A final exam will be given at the end of the fourth quarter which will cover all of the material during the year.
There will be one project per unit. Students will need to do research on the Internet, gather data, and make presentations. In each chapter, the student will advance to the next step. At the end of the unit, students will need to make a presentation of their findings.
