Second Grade French

The second grade French curriculum uses a thematic approach, with an emphasis on structures. The theme, topics and activities for each grade level are listed in the bi-monthly newsletters. The curriculum is developed in conjunction with the social studies, science, and math units for the year to supplement and complement their learning.

Second graders learn to describe themselves and their feelings in French. They also learn to have conversations about the weather, people, and places. In the first month, they learn to express themselves using over 40 action verbs! They develop their written French skills through worksheets, vocabulary games and exercises, and illustrated projects. They are given spelling and vocabulary quizzes as well as mini-tests to assess their oral and written progress in French. As the year progresses, in conjunction with their science and social studies units, they learn to describe and discuss the world around them, the ocean and it’s creatures. 2nd graders enjoy exploring the world around them in French!
