The introduction to realism is presented
to grades 4-5. Students begin to learn concepts of
perspective, light source, and proportion, while
continuing to learn about basic art elements and
techniques of color, shape, line, texture and depth.
Students are given the opportunity to explore and
experiment with drawing, painting, sculpting and
printing, while practicing the technical handling
of materials. Art history is taught in the context
of a given emphasis. The aim is to reinforce art
appreciation through the study of art aesthetics
and its place in various cultures and history, while
helping students grow in their understanding of different
perspectives and visual means of expression.
The main goal for the art curriculum
is to teach students to be confident in expressing
themselves through the application of art skills.
