First Grade Library

The first grade French curriculum uses a thematic approach, with an emphasis on structures. The theme, topics and activities for each grade level are listed in the bi-monthly newsletters. The curriculum is developed in conjunction with the social studies, science, and math units for the year to supplement and complement their learning.

First graders learn to describe themselves and their feelings in French. They also learn to have conversations about the weather, people, and places. They develop their spoken French and vocabulary skills through games and exercises, and illustrated projects. They are assessed throughout the year on their oral progress in French. As the year progresses, in conjunction with their science and social studies units, they learn to describe themselves and their family as well as their world around them. 1st graders enjoy expressing themselves and sharing in French!
