The Brain

Brain Games

Just recently, the 5th grade started a study on the brain. Each class made up a game. The group had to make up a game that would help you learn about the brain, or at least have something to do with the brain. My group's game was called "Sense it!" Did you know that the left side of your brain controls the right side and that the right side of your brain controls the left side. There was a long line on the first day we played our brain games. I think people only came to our game for the candy! It was so crowded that everybody abandoned there game and played ours.

Bishop Museum

On December 7, the 5th grade class went to the Bishop Museum. We went there to see the brain exhibit. It was new and looked insanely cool. In the first picture, I'm playing a game. I had to press a button each time the brain lit up. I think it was a reflex test. The second picture is a real brain. The brain didn't look real because it looked like plastic. It also looked gooey. I don't think anyone thought of it as a real brain too. They had animal brains there too, they looked strangely small. If you break your spinal cord, you will be paralyzed because nothing can travel up your brain.

Brain Demo

The first picture is a picture of me and some of my classmates touching a REAL brain. It had a very...bad smell because of the preservative. We had to wear gloves because the preservative would irritate our skin. Some of us ( including me) went to the bathroom to wash our hands after we touched the brain. The second picture is a brain cut up into pieces. I was looking at the pieces with disgust... I couldn't stand the smell. Your spinal cord is just like a bridge up to your brain. Nerves travel up and down on it.

How To

One day in class, we were learning about rites of passages. Every person in my class had to choose a topic that was on the list. If someone chose that topic, you weren't allowed to right about it. My topic was Privacy. We had to wright down what we could do to earn that privilege. Later on, we're going to make a book out of the papers.
