Physical Education Curriculum

It is the goal of the PE department that students of all ability levels  experience frequent success in PE throughout their years at Le Jardin.  We strive to help the students develop a degree of skill and movement competence that will encourage them to participate in a variety of activities and sports as they grow, leading to a lifelong enjoyment of regular physical activity.

At the Junior School, we focus on skill building and basic movement concepts.  Learning is accomplished through play, games, teacher directed instruction and by providing time and materials for students to explore and practice.

Students use a variety of equipment to learn throwing, catching, bouncing, kicking and striking skills;  walking, running, leaping, jumping, hopping, galloping and skipping.  Students learn to locate and identify different parts of their bodies.  Qualities of movement are explored;  speed, level, direction, shape, balance, simple dances and yoga poses are taught.

Finally, time is spent learning social skills while playing safely and kindly with other children and the PE equipment. Pre-Kindergarten students attend P.E. once a week for 30 minutes and Junior Kindergarteners attend twice a week for 25 minutes. A newsletter distributed three times a year (September, January, March) keeps families informed of the P.E. curriculum.
