Art Curriculum

Through the arts, children's minds are actively engaged.  Their imaginations are stimulated, creative problem-solving is practiced, and divergent thinking is encouraged.

The art program includes drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, collage, fabric arts, group collaborations, famous artist studies and more.  These processes develop and strengthen students' visual and tactile awareness, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.

An art education at the Junior School emphasizes the process involved in creating each artwork, not the product.  It is through the process of exploration, experimentation, risk-taking, self-discovery, and personal expression that the self-esteem and self-awareness of each child is developed and nourished.

Students attend art class once a week for 45- minutes, instructed by the art teacher and assisted by an aide.  A newsletter distributed three times a year (September, January, March) keeps families informed of the art curriculum, projects and events
